The College of Engineering in AAU organized a workshop about “Queueing Theory”

The College of Engineering in Al Ain University (Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Campuses), organized a workshop entitled “Queueing Theory and its Applications”, in conjunction with the IEEE UAE Section, IEEE UAE MTT & IM Joint Chapter and the IEEE AAU Student Branch, was presented by Prof. Mohan Chaudhry, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (Royal Military College – Canada), under the supervision of Dr. Nazih Khaddaj Mallat –Dean of the College of Engineering, and in the presence of Prof. Ghaleb El Refae –AAU President, Prof. Abdelhafid Belarbi –AAU Vice President (Al Ain Campus), Dr. Amer Qasem -AAU Vice President (Abu Dhabi Campus) and the College of Engineering staffs and students.

Prof. Mohan started the workshop by defining the “Queueing Theory” concept as: sequence of customers and/or goods lined to be served or processed, for instance, in banks, hospitals, airports, manufacturing systems and telecommunications. He added that the objective of the study of queueing theory is to eliminate waste of time, money and materials and to trace the history of queueing theory and its usefulness in the fields of engineering, business, and management.

Dr. Khaddaj Mallat stressed on the importance of this subject because of the disadvantages resulting from queuing theory, Thus, working  to find viable solutions may relieve pressures caused by queues will reduce the cost and effort, especially in the fields of engineering, business and management and he valued the ideas presented by Prof. Dr. Mohan Chaudhry.
