Field Trip to the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology
The College of Engineering and Information Technology at Al Ain University organized a field trip to the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Abdel Tawwab and Mr. Majed Nasr from the NCMS gave two lectures in which they provided extensive information on the role and responsibilities of the NCMS. They also explained methods of monitoring and weather forecasting.
After that, Mrs. Alia Al Marzouqi gave the students a guided tour around the NCMS to introduce them to the services the center offers. She also familiarized them with the seismology center and how the UAE seismic catalog works along with seismic hazard mapping and seismic activity mapping.
With two main departments; Meteorology and Seismology, NCMS provides consultation to organizations that request information on seismic activity. In addition, the center provides detailed seismic studies for relevant construction sites.
On his part, Eng. Ayman Odeh, Head of the Engineering association at the College of Engineering and Information Technology, said that the visit had been extremely useful and informative. Students were able to see real-life implementation of information technology applications as well as the latest technologies used for communications at the NCMS.
