AAU Engineering Students Attend ESREC 2013

Nazih MallatThe AAU College of Engineering and Information Technology attended the 4th Engineering Students Renewable Energy Competition 2013 (ESREC 2013) held at United Arab Emirates University. Fifty four teams represented by 183 students from 11 universities from the UAE and abroad took part in the competition which was opened by Prof. Reyadh A. Almehaideb, Dean of the College of Engineering at UAEU, in the attendance of Dr. Nazih Mallat, Head of the Computer Engineering and Networks and Communications Department at AAU, as well as representatives from participating universities.

Dr. Mallat mentioned that ESREC is becoming the focal point for students enrolled in engineering, science, and technology programs in universities and colleges across the UAE in general, and for the AAU students in specific. The students’ participating projects focused on the various forms of renewable energy such as solar, wind, fuel cells, and hydrogen.

Dr. Mallat reiterated that the world is currently moving towards finding ‘clean’ alternatives to energy which can only be achieved through research, and this is where the role of science colleges and academics comes. In light of that, the AAU College of Engineering and Information Technology contributes significantly through research to facilitate this task for students and researchers.
