College of Engineering Organizes "Roads Ahead" Session to Enhance Practical Experience in Highway Design

The College of Engineering at the Abu Dhabi Campus organized a session titled "Roads Ahead: A Talk on Highway Design Engineering" as part of the Highway Engineering course, aiming to provide a comprehensive learning experience that connects classroom concepts with practical engineering practice.

The session was delivered by Eng. Ghusoon Alshami, a Highway Design Engineer at AECOM, who shared her firsthand experience in planning and designing road infrastructure, highlighting practical challenges in geometric design, field coordination, safety standards, and implementation. The session demonstrated how engineering decisions directly impact road efficiency, user safety, and long-term infrastructure performance.

This initiative reflects the Civil Engineering Program at Al Ain University’s commitment to integrating industry interaction within academic courses, providing students exposure to real project environments, practical challenges, and current industry requirements to maximize the benefit from each course.

The session concluded with high student engagement and appreciation for the practical knowledge shared, emphasizing the value of incorporating professional expertise into the learning environment, particularly in specialized fields like highway engineering.
